And it does both of these well. These bags are easy to close. I don't even need the included tool. Nor do I use a fancy heat-sealing machine. I use a wine vacuum sucker to pull out the air inside after sealing. No air escapes. It's important to note that if you put something inside that naturally off-gasses (fruits, veggies, coffee, bread, etc) the bag will appear to fill. It is NOT filling with air from the outside, it is filling with the gasses released from what is inside. Whereas, if you seal and suck something that does not off-gas (at least not quickly), you will see it remain tightly formed around the contents.They are durable enough to go in the fridge or freezer to package smaller portions. They hold their vacuum for use in a cabinet so no pests can get to whatever is inside. Works for all my needs.
